PPAP Development

PPAP stands for "Production Part Approval Process." It is a standardized method used in the manufacturing industry to ensure that all components and processes related to the production of a product meet the required quality standards. The PPAP process is commonly used in automotive, aerospace, and other industries with stringent quality requirements.

The purpose of PPAP is to validate that a production process can consistently produce parts or components that meet customer specifications. It involves a series of documentation, review, and approval steps to demonstrate that the manufacturing process can meet the desired quality, reliability, and consistency. In the Aerospace industry, the PPAP is the latest requirement for engine suppliers (AESQ) and the new requirements under AS13100.

There are 8 basic key elements of a PPAP that typically include a Part Submission Warrant, Part Approval Documentation, Process Flow Diagram, Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Control Plan, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Initial Sample Inspection Report (ISIR), and Part Submission Status. The level of the PPAP submittal will determine which elements will be needed.

Once the PPAP documentation is compiled and reviewed, it is submitted to the customer or the relevant approving authority for evaluation and approval. The customer reviews the documentation to ensure that the manufacturing process meets their requirements and standards. Once approved, production can commence.

Overall, the PPAP process serves as a quality assurance mechanism, ensuring that suppliers and manufacturers have the necessary controls and documentation in place to consistently produce high-quality products.
